The Los Angeles Rams – Not a Football Town

What’s the mark of a good sports town? Having crazy fans, jerseys everywhere, social media stars, history….The truth is, growing a fanbase in a city is not an overnight accomplishment, it takes blood, sweat, and tears from the organization, coaches, players, and of course the fans. Though having a longtime NFL team with great success is amazing for a fanatical fanbase, the opposite is also true for cities with bad NFL football culture.

Los Angeles is currently growing its pro-football fanbases. In 2016 the Rams and the Chargers both moved to the city of Angels, never thinking that this town could be big enough for the two of them. Chargers fans didn’t have to travel far, existing mostly in the San Diego area. Therefore, when people say that the Chargers don’t have any fans – this can’t be further from the truth, most of them live south of LA. Meanwhile, the Rams have recently become the chosen ‘team of LA’, garnering quick bandwagon support from the Lakers-Kings-Duke-Yankees-Alabama fanbase that partially resides in the Los Angeles area. Unfortunately, when you get a bunch of rich people to root for your team, it immediately invalidates any sort of support for an NFL team. Whenever we see Rams games, we keep getting shots of all A-Tier celebrities ‘supporting’ the Rams in their shiny new booths. Other fanbases have smelt blood in the water, out to buy a large percentage of seats at So-Fi stadium just to boo the Rams in a convincing fashion.

Apart from the fact that Rob Lowe finally picked a team to root for, LA will likely become a full-fledged football town in like five to ten years. Most of the older fans are just going into stores to buy gear for one game that some rich guy probably bought for them, but I’m not going to discount the blue-collar nature of the city of LA.

Let’s not forget that the Rams are playing a home Superbowl. Even though the Bengals have become America’s team in these past two weeks, I fully expect fans from Cincinnati to fly to LA to buy tickets out of sheer spite, not only to root for their team but fully knowing that football fans in LA are soft.
