Week 8 Power Rankings

1. 2 Girls 1 Kupp (8-0)

Owner – Satwik Nandala, Vivaan Patel

Last Week – #1

The acronym F.E.A.R has two meanings – 1. Forget Everything and Run – or – 2. Face Everything and Rise. Goliath, Kraken, Basilisk, Rayquaza, Kaiju, 2 Girls 1 Kupp, all have one thing in common – they strike fear into their opponents. Averaging 130 points per game, scoring low less than 115 points, and having a losing weekly ATL on a singular occurrence in the season, the historic clip is bolstered by consistency of legends. The Titan of the league shows no slowing down.

Award – Nikhil Ramesh D/ST of the Week

2. mcKISSic MY bASS (5-3)

Owner – Noah Rickles

Last Week – #4

The Team of the Week Award is extremely well deserved, as Noah shatters the glass ceiling and joins the upper echelon of contenders. Holding the tiebreak over other 5-3 teams, 4th in the league in points scored, and 31-13 combined ATL since week 5 –  if Noah’s team ignored the sad days of the early season, he may be competing for 2nd place in the standings. A few questions about James Robinson’s health linger, however the absence of Derrick Henry somehow works in the roster’s favor by creating more pass catching opportunities for A.J. Brown. Patrick Mahomes might also be a trade asset – that’s the world we live in. Noah should look to continue the win streak against Matt next week.

Award – Team of the Week

3. Waddle House (4-4)

Owner – Nikhil Ramesh

Last Week – #5

Mr. Tiebreaker manages one hell of a team. Week 8 called for the rostering of three Miami Dolphins players. Unlike the conservation status of actual Dolphins however, team wins are not endangered, flying to his second straight victory despite also having two Chicago Bears players on this team. Ramesh has broken the formula trademarked by the Ramanans and the Matts of the league and would probably be a better coach than Matt Nagy himself. Ok digression over… Ramesh has scored under 100 points only once on the season and stands in the top half of the league in terms of consistency. The situation similar to Noah’s team, if statistics from the first weeks of the season were erased, Ramesh would likely be in contention for a top 3 seed. Luckily, he can still compete for one, looking for a win over Keshav and a loss from Ayush and Noah in week 9.

4. DoubleTrey Hotel (6-2)

Owner – Manoaj Kandiakounder

Last Week – #2

Week 8 can only be categorized as a struggle win, for what could have been an absolute thumping of Matt. We take any win in this league, and frankly Manoaj might need it. The loss of Derrick Henry stands as a catastrophic blow – losing the best player on the fantasy football season – and now projects to roll with a combination of Devin Singleterry and Damien Williams as RB1/2. Fortunately, bench depth at all positions should be enough to stay in playoff contention. However, going 24-20 ATL since week 5, while going 3-1 during the stretch does stink of a luckier win. Still, I project Manoaj to rise to 7-2 in week 9, as Arpan’s team has lost 4-straight and has significant injuries.

5. Travis Scott (5-3)

Owner – Ayush Jha

Last Week – #3

Projected to be a week 8 blockbuster against the best team in the league, Ayush laid a complete dud while going 1-10 ATL in consecutive weeks. There’re simply no excuses to be made, with six players having single digit performances and bench backup fireworks making start/sit decisions extremely difficult. Ayush stands at 7th in points scored, but ranks 4th in the standings. The only saving grace happens to be the record, holding a one-game advantage over the .500 and under group. This team needs to go back to the drawing board as Ramesh’s quickly advancing team holds the tiebreaker over and projects a win. A hit-or-miss matchup against Parth/Amit in week 9 has the potential to continue the fall in the power rankings.

Award – Dumpster Fire of the Week

6. Brady 4Ever (3-5)

Owner – Parth Patel, Amit Dommeti

Last Week – #7

Brady 4Ever started week 8 as the 11th seeded team in the standings, and ended as the 6th seeded team – setting a prime example for teams that got screwed in the first half of the season finally getting a break. With an impressive 7-4 ATL victory against Chinmay in week 8, this team has yet to have a truly awful week and never scoring under 90 points throughout this season. Consistency has been their forte, and have maintained some luck to distance themselves from season-defining injuries. Should they continue this trend, while wary of the namesake Brady going on a bye, they have a chance to balance the scales of their own luck by beating a struggling, but top tier team in Ayush.

7. Chasing my First Win (2-6)

Owner – Vikas Molleti

Last Week – #9

The road to recovery is a long and difficult journey, but if one team could find success in the pain, it would be Vikas. Standing at 3rd in ATL since week 5, two straight wins and an 11-0 week 9 continue to propel this team first up the power rankings, then up the standings. With a roster containing two top 10 running backs, two top 10 wide receivers, the best D/ST in the league, and a top 3 quarterback, it’s easy to see that Vikas should be around .500. Though time is not on their side, on the chance that this team sneaks into the playoffs, upsets against top seeded teams may be imminent as the hottest team in the league is poised for a deep playoff run. Next week is an are you for real game, with Vikas playing the number one team in the league. Note Vikas will likely not control his own destiny.

Award – Top Score of the Week

8. Cook out (3-5)

Owner – Keshav Ravi

Last Week – #6

One of the ascending teams of the league scores the league season low on points in the 2021-22 season. However understandable, injuries to Julio Jones, Antonio Brown, and Miles Sanders keep Keshav from joining the true upper echelon of the league. As a high ceiling, low floor squad, the coincidence of a Bucs bye week and Aaron Rodgers’ starring role in John Wick 4: COVID Protocol makes the upcoming week 9 matchup at the Waddle House extremely difficult. Paper-thin running back depth headed by frequent injury report resident Dalvin Cook may keep them pointed in the right direction. Furthermore, the addition of Ryan Tannehill in an evolved pass heavy offense might take Keshav towards the main bracket. These may be the positives, but injuries deal significant blows for the Keshav offensive. The road to .500 will likely test this team’s mettle in dealing with seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

Award – Deep Throat of the Week

9. Foster the Peoples-Jones (3-5)

Owner – Chinmay Kulkarni

Last Week – #8

Certified official, Chinmay has joined the group of league bottom feeders. Barely treading water due to above average wide receiver play, injuries, bye weeks, and some of the worst depth in the league have this team on extremely thin ice. A final running back season ending injury to Chubb or Jacobs would likely finish this team off for good, potentially losing the consolation bracket as well. Fortunately that is not the case, as the 3-5 squad still has a sliver of life left – a battle with Ramanan in week 9 will determine one of the bottom spots in the league. With largely all bye weeks in the rear view mirror, a slim chance to sneak into the playoffs at the 8-seed is the light at the end of the tunnel.

10. Gay Rights (3-5)

Owner – Arpan Bhavsar

Last Week – #10

Average showings and losses aren’t moving this team in the right direction, as Arpan’s running backs significantly underperformed and project a week 9 bye. Brandon Bolden definitely is not that guy, without the rushing volume necessary for profitable production while relying on the dink and dunk, game management of Mac Jones. Arpan clearly used the throw shit at a wall strategy this week, and it 50% worked. Unfortunately, with Noah Fant on the COVID list, and the massive number of injuries on the bench, Arpan stands in dire straits. Not all hope is lost, with a decent matchup against Manoaj – losing the best player in fantasy – and having tiebreak priority over several members of the 3-5 club, a slight possibility still remains to get the team pointed in the right direction towards .500 in week 9.

11. Score a TD Boston (3-5)

Owner – Nikhil Ramanan

Last Week – #11

Ramanan peaked as high as 5 in the power rankings and subsequently slid down to 11th in extreme Ramanan fantasy fashion. Not everything is awful, taking an 8-3 ATL loss and a 7-4 ATL in weeks 6 and 7, while taking a 5-6 loss this past week. The strategy of starting three Giants players kinda worked this week for about the first half against the struggling Kansas City Chiefs. However, the biggest story out of this week from Ramanan is the leave of Calvin Ridley. I understand the mental health is important and is equally as important for distressed fantasy team owners. But with a Bucs bye coming up, Ramanan may need to get outside counseling must keep the ship afloat with potentially even more New York Football Giants wide receivers. Week 9 holds Chinmay’s reeling team struggling from short term injuries, bye weeks, and roster depth in what must be a get right game.

12. This Justin: I Love Justin (3-5)

Owner – Matt Lord

Last Week – #12

I can’t tell if this team is plain bad, or just unlucky now. Matt started the Bengals D/ST and had possibly the most hindsight is 20/20 moment of the season. The Carolina Panthers and their general incompetence have limited the performance for Matt, but then enter Mike Fucking White who threw for 400+ yards on his first NFL start which can be only a sign of the next great generational QB for the shield. The tale of the tape is looking grim, going 4-40 combined ATL over the past 4 weeks, 5 straight losses, and a generous 50/50% chance to make the playoffs according to ESPN. Matt hosts Noah in week 9 for a must win game to stay with the 3-5 pack.
